Most financial experts recommend that you keep 3 - 6 months of your living expenses in a government insured savings account. The credit union offers a convenient place to accumulate a savings reserve.

Primary Share Account (type 01 & 04)
To become a member at UMassFive, a minimum balance of $5.00 is necessary to open this required account and constitutes your ownership share in our financial cooperative. Once a primary share account is opened, you will have access to all benefits a credit union membership has to offer. This also makes you eligible to vote for our Board of Directors. Type 01 and 04 share accounts pay a monthly dividend that is compounded monthly.

Money Fund Share Account (type 20)
This tiered savings account pays members a better interest rate for maintaining a minimum balance of $2,500 with the credit union. More…

Holiday Club (type 11)
This is a single purpose savings account with an automatic yearly withdrawal in October. It allows you a separate savings for your holiday expenses. This is an interest bearing account with a minimum balance of $5.00. Dividends are compounded and credited monthly.

Secondary Share Accounts (types 30 & 10)
Secondary Share Accounts allow you to separate savings for your individual needs (taxes, rent, vacation, etc.). These are interest-bearing accounts with a minimum balance of $100.00 and are not accessible through ATM machines. Dividends are compounded and credited monthly.
