UMassFive College Federal Credit Union
Web Site Privacy Policy Statement

UMassFive College Federal Credit Union is committed to protecting your privacy. We have designed our umassfive site to allow you to visit most areas without identifying yourself or supplying personal information. For those areas where you are requested to provide identifiable information, we assure you that it will only be used to support your customer relationship with UMassFive College Federal Credit Union.

What information do we collect?
On some UMassFive College Federal Credit Union umassfive site pages, you may request information, which requires a response. We may ask for information when you register for a service or order products from our online catalog. Therefore, we may need your name, Email address, phone number, credit card number, etc. in order to fulfill your request. We may also use that information to provide you with additional services or information in which you might be interested.

Disclosure
This Question-and-Answer Disclosure explains what UMassFive College Federal Credit Union does to keep information about you private and secure. We want you to know how we manage that information, and who and why we share it with third parties. As a member-owned credit union, we understand that trust and confidence are the primary elements of our relationship with you, and that starts with protecting your personal data.

Q: What information do you have about me?
A: To provide services and to help meet your needs, we collect information about you from various sources.

  • We get information from your requests for our products or services. One example is income on loan applications.
  • We get information about your transactions with us and with others. For example, we have your account balance information.
  • We get information, such as your credit history, from credit bureaus when you apply for a loan.

Q: How do you safeguard information about me?
A: We take a number of steps to protect the privacy of information about you. Here are some examples:

  • We keep information under physical, electronic and procedural controls that comply with or exceed governmental standards.
  • We authorize our employees, agents and contractors to get information about you only when they need it to do their work for us.
  • We require companies working for us to protect information. They agree to use it only to provide the services we ask them to perform for us.

Q: Is information about me shared with other service providers and financial companies?
A: Yes, as permitted by law. We may share information about you with outside companies that work for us. These may include firms that assist in marketing our products, but are more typically those companies that perform specialized services, such as check printing. In order to print checks for you, we share all the information that appears on your checks, but no more. We may also share information about you with outside financial companies that have joint marketing agreements with us. These arrangements give you the opportunity to receive additional products or services. One such firm is the CUNA Mutual Insurance Company. CUNA deals exclusively with credit unions and their members, and provides group rate life, disability & long-term care insurance.

Q: Is information about me shared with non-financial companies?
A: Yes. We may share information about you with other companies as permitted by law, including retailers, auto dealers, & direct marketers. An example of this occurs when a member is trading-in a vehicle on which the Credit Union has a lien. In order to process the purchase of a new vehicle, the auto dealer will contact the Credit Union for a pay-off amount. Although the Credit Union will not release this information without first obtaining the member's permission, it is an example of sharing protected information with a retailer. This is an area of information sharing where you may see other financial companies provide "opt-out" offers, so that you can prevent the sharing of your personal information. These other financial institutions are forced (by law) to provide the "opt-out" offer because of the manner and purpose of sharing their customers' private information. Whenever you see an "opt-out" offer, it should be viewed as a "red flag" because it means that the institution is sharing your information in a manner which requires your permission (and has nothing to do with the servicing of your account). UMassFive does not share your information in any of these objectionable ways, which is why you do not see any "opt-out" information in this document.

Q: Is information about me shared in any other ways?
A: Yes. We may also share information about you in other ways, as required or permitted by law. Here are some examples of ways that we share information.

  • To protect against fraud.
  • To respond to a subpoena.
  • To service your account.
  • With your consent.

Q: If I have any questions or concerns, who should I contact?
A: Please call the Credit Union at 1-800-852-5886 during normal business hours. One of our Call Center Representatives will be happy to assist you.

This Policy applies to current and former members.
